Specimen. This wallet was built to demonstrate the register, not dug from the chain. Its figures are computed from a synthetic ledger by the same code that reads a real one, and its address resolves to nothing. It is not a grave.
For the first stretch of its life this account was correct. Twelve round trips, twelve times it bought and sold and came away with more than it took in. I want that on the record, because what follows is going to bury it.
Then it kept going. Twenty-six more round trips, every one of them worse than the last, over the better part of a year. It gave back everything it had won and then it gave back a good deal that it had not.
The peak is on the plate. So is the end. The distance between them is the entire eulogy and I do not need to write it out; the line does it better than I could.
I file this as a bleeder, and I will say plainly that the rule which caught it — half of peak, given back — is the softest on the register. A wallet that gave back forty-nine percent is filed elsewhere and I cannot honestly tell you those two lives were different. Read the shape, not the label.
